The Secret of the Cherry Blossom

In the village of Hamakaru, the sun quietly rose between the mountains in beautiful blue hues. Even before dawn, the birds began chirping, spreading their melodious tunes across the world. Except for them, everything stood still like a statue. It looked as if a magical spell had been cast upon the world.

But after a few hours, everyone returned to their everyday routine.

Mothers and fathers dropped their plump, rosy-cheeked children at school while others went to work. The aroma of fresh fruits and vegetables that had just been plucked filled the air. Temple bells jingled while the priest and the devotees began their daily prayers.

Soon, there was a great deal of hustling and bustling in the streets. Among all this activity stood what was probably the prettiest cherry blossom tree in the world.

Its walnut-brown trunk shone brightly, and its rose-coloured petals fell gently onto the soft dirt ground. Most adults hardly noticed the tree because they were always busy with their work and had little time to admire its beauty.

But the children loved being around it.

Every evening, all the children of the village would gather at their favourite spot beneath the cherry blossom tree. They would dance and chant their song about the tree as if it were listening to their rhymes.

The song went like this:

Beneath the sky so wide and blue, The cherry blossom blooms anew.

Its petals fall like softest rain,

A whispered song, a sweet refrain.

A gentle dream in pink and white, That every day stands calm and bright.

But the most amazing part was that nobody knew who had planted this ancient tree or why. The villagers had named the tree “The Whispered Bloom.”

Some people claimed they had seen a strange creature living in the hollow of the tree. Others found the story hard to believe.

One day, an eleven-year-old boy named Saiku arrived in the village of Hamakaru with his grandfather, who was a botanist by profession.

One fine morning, Saiku walked near the tree and noticed a faint light coming from the hollow. Curious, he stepped closer to the entrance and was astonished by what he saw.

Inside were hundreds of glowing creatures with wings, floating gently in the air.

Suddenly, Saiku remembered something from his grandfather’s book about strange creatures. He had once read that they were a kind of fairies from the underworld, a mysterious place where demons and other mystical beings lived.

While he was lost in these thoughts, he was suddenly distracted by the appearance of a dazzling light.

That was when he saw Kiri.

Kiri was a fox-like creature with fur as soft as petals, flower-like ears, and golden wings that shimmered in the air.

She was the Goddess of Spirits, and she had appeared before him herself.

Kiri told Saiku that she often appeared in the dreams of children to enrich their imagination and

childhood. But now something terrible was happening. Because of a dark magic spreading across the realms, the spirits were slowly fading away.

They had to be saved before it was too late.

Only a child pure of heart could help restore the balance between the worlds, and Kiri believed that Saiku was that child.

She told him that the cherry blossom tree was the gateway between the two realms. To protect it, he must water the tree with honey before it withered.

The next day, as Saiku prepared to leave the village with his grandfather, he ran to the cherry blossom tree one last time. He gently touched its trunk, thanked it, and said goodbye.

Later, when he reached home, Saiku wondered if everything that had happened had only been a dream.

But then he noticed something.

A delicate cherry blossom petal was stuck in his shaggy hair. And in that moment, Saiku knew the truth.

It was a secret.

A secret about faith, magic, and the wonder of a Cherry Blossom.
