The Mystery of the Missing Key

In a small town of Riverview, there stood a tall, creaky house at the end of Jhong Street. As the thunder was rolling, Aarav was coming back from school. The lights were flickering.

“Aarav!” shouted his grandmother.

Aarav ran as quickly as possible. His grandmother was standing near the cupboard. She said, “The cupboard key is missing. I always keep it in the drawer, but right now it is not there.”

Aarav asked, “Who came inside the room?”

His grandmother said, “Your sister Meera, Rohan, and the milkman came.”

Aarav noted it in a notebook.

People who came inside my grandmother’s room:

• Milkman
• Rohan
• Meera

After noting it down, he started interrogating the three suspects.

Suspect #1: The Milkman
Aarav went to the milkman and asked, “Did you see any key in my grandmother’s room?”

The milkman replied, “No, Aarav, I didn’t see any key, as I went to the kitchen to keep the milk bottles.”

Suspect #2: Rohan
Next, he went to Rohan’s house and asked him, “Hi Rohan, did you see any key in my grandmother’s room?”

Rohan replied, “No, Aarav, I was waiting outside for you to come and play, but since you didn’t come, I came back home.”

Suspect #3: Meera
Next, he went to Meera, who was playing inside the house, and asked, “Meera, did you see any key in our grandmother’s room?”

Meera replied, “Yes, brother, I wanted to use it for my game, but it got lost.”

Aarav saw biscuit crumbs leading to the kitchen. He saw a crow sitting on a tree, having something shiny. When he went outside, he saw the crow had the key in its beak.

He knew that the crow wouldn’t give the key, so he gave the crow a piece of bread and took the key from its beak. After taking it, he gave it to his grandmother, who opened the cupboard and saw that nothing was missing.

From then on, everyone called Aarav a little detective.
