Princess Amelia and the Golden Light
Once upon a time, there used to be a kingdom. The kingdom had a king and a queen. They were great rulers of the land and the kingdom prospered under their rule. They had a daughter, the princess, who they named Amelia and she was as beautiful as the night. With rosy lips and a perfect posture and elegant manners, she was the perfect princess. She was very agile too on the horse that her parents gifted her on her 15th birthday. She used to take riding lessons and each day her riding instructor would praise her in front of the king and queen. Everyone loved the princess. She took care of all her people and would help anyone in need. She was loved by all her people. She loved adventuring through the large expanse of her kingdom’s green forests with her parents.
One day, as they were trekking in the forest, her parents started bickering amongst themselves. They fought about who gets to drink the last bottle of water, they fought about who was not doing their part in ruling the country and they fought about whether they should have rested or gone on. This went on for sometime and the royal guards and their princess started growing concerned as the king and queen were normally a happy lot and have never argued about anything before.
While the bickering went on, a tornado was swirling toward them and when it finally reached them, they were sucked upwards by the dark swirling mass and their appearance slowly transformed each minute they were trapped in the tornado. Their arguments turned into screams and their screams turned into roars. And then the tornado went as quickly as it came but the king and queen were nowhere to be found. Instead, in their place were two gigantic hideous monsters which towered all over the rest of the entourage.
Their bodies were massive and easily 10 feet long. The royal guards crowded against the princess and locked her in the middle so that they could protect her. But she fought them and finally escaped their clutches and walked up to the hideous beasts.
The commander of the royal beasts cried out, “Princess Amelia, don’t go near them. Come back. They are too dangerous!”.
The princess ignored him and kept whispering soothing words to her transformed parents. They were getting agitated at the ropes the royal guards lassoed around their necks. They roared and growled and lashed out at the guards restraining them. Princess Amelia shouted at the guards to remove the ropes from around their necks. They didn’t listen to her and kept on lifting the princess’s parents onto a giant raft on wheels and started wheeling them to their enormous cages. The princess tried to prevent them from locking up her parents in the cages and screamed at the royal guards to stop and that her parents won’t be happy being locked up in cages and having no sense of freedom. But of course, they didn’t listen.
She stalked towards her horse and saddled her. The commander asked where she was going but Amelia was not in the mood to answer so he just took off with her horse and as they galloped down towards the villages and towns, Amelia felt a little better as the wind whipped across her cheek and blew her hair on top of her face. As she passed the villages, all the people gasped as she flew by with no cares in the world. They all bowed before her as she passed and to them, she looked like a goddess. Amelia smiled and waved at them and she leaned forward on her horse and gripped the gridle of her horse and started to close her eyes and drift off to sleep. When her horse suddenly accelerated, she woke up with a jerk and fell of her horse. She felt a stabbing pain in her right leg and realized that she fractured it. She felt a sudden wave of nausea when she looked down and saw her leg twisted in a weird angle.
When she turned around, she saw her horse eating grass and finally understood why her horse stopped abruptly. She was too tired and so was Amelia as she saw the sky turning from bright baby blue to the early colors of night. She didn’t know what to do and she didn’t know where she was. It was like she was in a different kingdom. She scanned the horizon and saw a figure coming towards her. She was in an unconscious state so her eyes were dreary of lack of sleep as she only took a short nap on her ride. As she dozed off, she vaguely registered a tall figure standing right in front of her and lifting her off of the ground. Amelia woke up to strange voices around her. She opened her eyes and wearily looked around. There were 5 people in the room and were talking. They quieted down when they saw she was awake.
One of the people smiled down at her and asked if she was hungry. Amelia gazed around the room and landed on the person. A plump, round woman who was smiling at her. She had a matronly look about her. She was wearing glass which had tinges of purple while the main color was black. Amelia didn’t know whether to trust these people or not but the lady was nice to her so she nodded and everyone else got up to do their work but not before they cast uncertain looks on Amelia. The nice lady asked Amelia her name but she didn’t know whether to tell her title along with her name or just her name so she just picked the simplest one, her name. the woman’s eyes widened and at that time, she looked like an owl. She asked if it was Princess Amelia and Amelia nodded. Suddenly a vessel clattered to the ground as one of the five people was frozen in shock. And Amelia wondered how she didn’t even know that everyone was listening to their conversation.
Everyone suddenly gasped at the same time and all either bowed or curtseyed to Amelia. And another person speaks up. They apologized for their mysterious behavior but they were all just so happy because they worshipped Amelia a lot because she was so kind and caring to everyone. Amelia was flattered and told everyone that she was so happy but that they needn’t have done that and that she was uncomfortable when they did that. From then on, they were her friends and while here and then, she would feel an ache for her kingdom, these brand new friends helped her overcome that and while she didn’t forget about her kingdom completely, her new friends filled up the hole in her chest. They also healed her leg and she was as right as rain and she felt grateful to her friends. So like that, time flew by and it became 2 years since she came here and Amelia felt kind of lonely when her friends would leave her to do their work. And even though she knew that they would come back, she always thought they would abandon her like her kingdom did to her.
And it is in those kinds of moments that she felt sad that no one tried to find her. But one day, while she was on her horse galloping across the valley, she spotted a familiar figure riding their horse up hills and then when they came into view, she recognized them as the commander of the royal guards. He was leading fifty soldiers and when he spotted Amelia, he came over to her and told her that the kingdom was in turmoil because the people found out the truth that their leaders were turned into monsters and the commander literally begged her to come back to her kingdom as her people needed her. Amelia told him that no she was not going back when she was abandoned by the kingdom when no one came to search for her and she already found a loyal batch of friends who would never leave her. The commander pleaded with her and grabbed hold of her wrist. He started dragging her towards his horse and Amelia screamed for him to let go as he was twisting her wrist until it was about to snap. And it was then that her friends came back. They heard her cries and they came and took in the sight before them and immediately rushed off to get whatever weapons they had. They started killing the guards and they were about to have a full on battle when Amelia shouted at them to stop and the commander dropped his grip from her wrist because at that moment, Amelia stomped on his foot.
He let go and started howling in pain. And hopped about with one foot. He glared at Amelia and she glared back. She saw that his feet were covered in purple and blue bruises and satisfactorily winked at him. He was about to drag her back to his horse when his hand was slapped away by the nice lady. She was smiling at him in a slightly deranged way. She told him that if he ever touched Amelia again, then she would make him pay. Amelia felt gratitude for her friend warming her chest. He nodded in a panicked way and when he glanced back at Amelia, he sneered. That was when her patience broke and she slapped his cheek. He stumbled away and blindly tried to reach for his weapon but Amelia knocked it away. The commander wobbled away and his men followed. The princess was about to go back into the house when the commander turned back and told her that she had a duty to her country and her people.
At this, Amelia knew he was right. She did have a duty to her country and people. They needed her! So she reluctantly bade farewell tearfully to her friends. They whispered into her ears – “Have hope!”.
She climbed onto her horse and started racing back to the kingdom. Her guards followed and soon she was back in the kingdom and her people rejoiced. She claimed her place as the new queen of her kingdom but she also wanted a remedy to turn her parents to the way they once were and so she went to the mages and asked for a remedy. They asked her to follow the North star until she reached a mountain. They told her she had to climb it and at the top, there will be
a golden light radiating from a statue. She needed to take some of the golden light and dump it on her parents. So after a long and tiring journey she finally found her parents but realized that they had lost all their memories of her.
Sadly but determined, she tried to help them recollect by recounting many of the fun times from her childhood that they had enjoyed together. After a while, they finally remembered her – their lovely daughter! Together they then reached the golden light and once it touched their bodies they were transformed back into humans again. They journeyed back to their kingdom and they lived happily ever after
