Technology And Internet
Technology is a boon of the modern era. It encompasses anything and everything. It helps people in making things more convenient, achievable and effective. The development of technology has considerably improved our lifestyle. It has made its impact felt on each and every aspect of life, including communication techniques.
The Internet is a technology that has transformed the way we live, work, communicate, educate and entertain ourselves.
Benefits of internet and technology
Technology is more than just a medium to access the internet, it is a way to create and share your thoughts, ideas, and opinions. It is also a way to stay connected with others and learn about the world around us.
The internet connects almost the entire world. Our awareness of world events and understanding of foreign culture has heightened and our frame of references and horizons have extended outside our little bubble.
Communication is massive as well. You can be separated by continents but talk and see your loved ones as if they’re in the same room.
Shopping, navigating, finding places to eat/drink, working, contacting people, checking the news, booking transport…the list goes on and on, right? It makes things possible. And the things it makes possible, it makes easy. Take away the web and everything gets bit more inconvenient.
The concept of online shopping has revolutionized the way we buy goods. Anything and everything can be purchased from anywhere in the world and it gets delivered to your doorstep.
Information is everything. And the internet is full of it. Anything you want to find, discover, and learn about…you go straight to Google, That’s it. No more encyclopedias, no more never-ending arguments, no more uncertainty. You just ask Google and get your answers.
Information goes hand in hand with education. With the internet at your disposal, you can upskill yourself, achieve mastery in subjects you have no formal education in, and become proficient at essentially any task imaginable.
The internet is like a golden ticket. With it, a person can educate and train themselves on a given topic. It wouldn’t be easy, but there’s at least a chance to achieve more from life.
The Internet allows you to learn at your own pace, and you can get certification and jobs online. Additionally, the internet makes it easy to find resources and materials that can help you improve your skills.
Internet has helped millions of students to continue their education during covid times with the help of online classes and did not hamper their development and schooling.
Another important use of internet is digital payment platform, or UPI We can now pay our electricity, water, phone or any bill by sitting in the comforts of our home and this is of great benefit to senior citizens who do not have to now stand in long queues in scorching heat or in rains.
Travel has also now become so easy …. gone are the times when we had to stand in long queues to book a local or a outstation train ticket or a flight ticket. Now everything is online … we just have to decide where and when and tickets are booked online …
How can we forget GPS …. navigation has become so easy right from pilots and sailors to a common man… we just have to say google take me to a xyz place and there it is… the direction, traffic conditions alternate routes , all in our phones … exploring new places has become easier ,convenient and time saving.
Saving forests and nature is the need of this century…. technology and internet have contributed immensely to this …. The internet has helped us go paperless and helped us save millions of trees which are cut to make paper….
Technology and internet have also helped us make enormous development in the field of medicine …. diagnosis and treatment of medical conditions has become more efficient thanks to the development of newer technologies… the internet has helped us share medical knowledge across the globe which has helped doctors save lives…
Let’s not forget the fun stuff too. The internet is an entertainment center. Take it away and where would you go to watch the latest films, series and viral videos? What about news stations, online gaming, blog articles, podcasts, online presentations, or infographics?
Technology is crazy. And it’s all tied in with the internet. Every industry is increasingly reliant on the wonders of such technology. We all benefit from the advancements that are made. Our health services improve, our security improves, our general infrastructure improves…The internet is a central component in it all.
Life without the internet would be a thousand times harder
Disadvantages of Internet
Although the Internet is one of man’s greatest creations, it has many disadvantages,
Anyone who has spent time on the Internet has encountered trolls or abusive people. Another growing issue, especially with kids in school, is cyberbullying. Because it’s easier to be anonymous on the Internet, a person may bully others who are also online. With people sharing more information about themselves and their families on the Internet, it can be easier for stalkers to find personal information.
Surfing and playing games on the Internet can quickly become very addictive. Doing so can lead to spending a lot of time on the Internet instead of doing something productive.
With access to billions of computers, computer hackers and malicious users can hack accounts and steal personal information that could be used for identity theft. Hidden places also exist on the Internet and the dark web for criminals to conduct business without as much fear of being caught.
Social networking sites can also lead to depression as many people tend to compare their lives with others. For example, if your social network friends have vacation pictures, you may get the false impression that everyone, but you are going on vacation.
The Internet and online games can be very addictive and time-consuming, and spending too much time with your virtual friends may take you away from your real-life friends.
As with watching TV, spending too much time on the computer, surfing the Internet, or playing games can also lead to obesity and an unhealthy lifestyle.
In the past, a person would need to create a website to post information online. Because of the difficulty and cost involved, not many people posted information online. Today, with blogs and social network sites, it’s possible for anyone with an Internet connection to post their thoughts online at little or no cost. Some people and some governments take advantage of how easy it is to create sites that spread lies or other fake news.
The Internet reduces the barriers for consumers to make purchases, so users may find themselves purchasing products without putting much thought into whether they should. Also, for some people, buying items on the Internet can become so addictive that it causes serious debt.
Life before internet and technology
Last-minute plans were not possible once you left your house. You’d be very careful to set up exact meeting times and locations with your friends. Before the days of Google and Wikipedia, if you wanted information on a particular topic, you would have to look it up in an encyclopedia, listing everything in alphabetical order If you had an event or information you wanted to share with other people, then you needed to physically print it on a piece of paper and post it on a real wall for others to see. You would get excited when the mailman would come by, hoping that someone sent you a letter.
Life before the internet definitely had its pros and cons. It was a time with more face-to-face interaction and time spent outside of your house. It can enrich your life to incorporate some aspects of these activities and help find a balance between the two worlds.
A day without internet and technology
You wake up one day in a world without technology – all the computers on the planet just disappeared. First of all, you’d wake up late because your smartphone alarm no longer exists.
Once the initial shock of the situation wore off, you’d start getting ready for work. Unfortunately, you wouldn’t be able to turn on the lights, shower or brush your teeth. Why? Power, gas and water are public utilities run by massive computer systems.
Then you would get dressed and go outside to your car. Unless the car was manufactured over three decades ago, it wouldn’t start. Most everything in a car today is operated by a controller area network (basically an onboard computer). Public transportation would be a no-go for the same reason. Even if your car did start, traffic would be a nightmare with all the traffic lights out. You’d finally decide to walk to work. After several hours of walking, you would get to work, where you’d encounter a similar
situation. The technologies that get you through everyday life would be missing
Your heart would sink as you realize that streaming a movie later isn’t in the cards. The evening’s entertainment would be limited to reading by candlelight or playing an acoustic instrument. You’d conclude that you never want to go a day without technology again.
Worldwide, 4.66 billion people use the internet and benefit from it tremendously. It makes our professional and personal lives much easier. We would probably acknowledge that it is possible to physically survive without technology. But we’d likely also say going a day without technology would be unrealistic and incredibly inconvenient.
Technology connected the world. We are much smarter than our previous generations and the coming generations will be smarter than us, all because of technology.
Today we have cures for most diseases. We know the reason behind most of the chemical reactions and physical phenomena. We know much about space and are observing the movements of planets and stars millions of light years away from us. We have sent humans to the moon and space. Water is available in deserts and barren lands have become productive all thanks to technology.
Technology has impacted almost every sphere of human life. It has changed us socially, emotionally and physically. Internet, advanced information and communication technology. Rapid development in education, healthcare and housing has definitely made our lives easier and comfortable but Our dependency on technology has increased to a dangerous level. It’s past time when we wake up and use technology just as a tool to help us and understand that Technology is a useful servant but a dangerous master.
The Internet has changed people socially and emotionally, natural beauty and internal peace has lost its value to showoffs and filters.
Overuse and over dependence on anything is dangerous. Technology in itself is neither good nor bad. It can be the engine of growth and progress, or it could be the fuel for our destruction. It all depends on how and in what proportion we use it.
