Essay – Republic Day

Republic Day is one of the most important days for our country. Every year on January 26, we celebrate this day to remember when India became a republic in 1950. It is a day to feel proud of our country and its people.

Before 1950, India was free from British rule but did not have its own set of laws. Instead, we followed laws made during the British period. On January 26, 1950, India adopted its own Constitution, which is a big book of rules that explains how the government should work and how everyone should live together peacefully. This made India a republic, which means the people have the power to choose their leaders and have equal rights.

Dr. B.R. Ambedkar was the chief architect of the Constitution, and it took nearly three years to write it. It guarantees rights like freedom of speech, equality, and justice, which are very important for all Indians.

In school, we have a special assembly on Republic Day. The teachers decorate the stage with colorful flowers, and we all gather to sing patriotic songs like “Jana Gana Mana” and “Vande Mataram.” There is also a flag-hoisting ceremony, and our principal gives a speech about the importance of this day.

The best part of Republic Day is watching the parade on TV. It happens in New Delhi, at a place called Rajpath. Soldiers, police, and even kids participate in the parade. They walk in straight lines, and some of them play musical instruments. There are also beautiful floats from different states of India, showing their special traditions, food, and clothes. My favorite part is the air show by the Indian Air Force. The fighter planes zoom across the sky, making colorful patterns.

Republic Day reminds us to love our country and work hard to make it better. It’s not just a holiday but a time to think about how we can be good citizens and contribute to India’s progress. I feel happy and proud to be an Indian on this day.

Jai Hind!
