Aureate Covenant of the Unfettered

O nation, hewn from sepulchral chains and sanguinary dawns,
Whose fervid progeny transfigured manacles into aureate hymns,
Shall thy spirit, once immured in imperial oubliettes,
Ever wane beneath the lassitude of unremembered toils?

From the crucibles of insurgent ardour, thy sinews were annealed;
The fervour of martyrs distilled in each torrid orison,
While thy soil, tinctured with the ichor of unnumbered sentinels,
Proclaimed to the cosmos thy inviolate sovereignty.

Yet liberty, that mercurial sovereign of mortal polity,
Is no mere relic to be venerated in ceremonial languor;
It is a ceaseless covenant, renewed by the vigilant,
Lest apathy sunder the diadem from the brow of the free.

So rise, O scions of the emancipated pantheon,
Wreathe thy conscience in the corolla of civic rectitude;
For the stars that embroid thy flag are not celestial idlers,
But sentient beacons demanding thy unremitting fealty.

And should the tempests of discord assail thy moral bastions,
Recall the tenebrous centuries that once enshrouded thy name;
Let remembrance be thy rampart, and unity thy oriflamme,
Till the aeons attest: this freedom is incorruptible.
