International Yoga Day - Little Authors

Importance of Yoga (International Yoga Day – June 21)

Over 5,000 years ago, the ancient Indians began practicing yoga. It is a means of maintaining the health of our body, mind, and spirit. Yoga incorporates meditation, breathing exercises known as pranayama, and physical movements called asanas. In our hectic life, it keeps us calm and in shape.

Every year on 21st June International Yoga Day is observed to raise awareness of yoga worldwide. Since it is the longest day of the year, this date was selected. Our Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi addressed the United Nations in 2014 on the advantages of yoga, and the inaugural International Yoga Day was observed in 2015. Since then, this day has seen millions of participants participate in yoga events worldwide.

Yoga has many benefits. It improves our posture, strengthens our muscles and makes our body flexible. It also helps us breathe better and stay relaxed. Students like me can focus better on studies if we practice yoga regularly. It even helps in reducing stress and anxiety which is very useful during exams or tough times.

In my school we celebrate Yoga Day every year. We wear white clothes and go to the ground early in the morning do yoga together with our teachers. Some of the yoga poses I enjoy are the Tree Pose, Cobra Pose and Surya Namaskar. They make me feel active and fresh for the whole day.

Yoga is not only for grown ups but it is for everyone including children, parents and even our grandparents. It doesn’t need any special equipment. Just a mat and some free space are enough!

I believe that yoga is one of the best gifts India has given to the world. It helps us live a better and healthier life. So let us all make yoga a part of our daily routine and celebrate International Yoga Day with energy and joy!
