The First Book
Coimbatore is the city with the buzzing streets of human crowd. There was a little book shop over the edge of the trading street. The other shops on the trading Street look always crowded whereas the book shop is always empty.
The owner of the book shop is Mr. Guselan.
Mr. Guselan is a man of intelligent in his words and way of speaking but not in his business. Every day two school boys walk along the little book store but they never tend to show any interest on books. One boy name is Anbu and the
other one is Mani. Anbu is a very silent and intelligent boy whereas Mani as per the villagers say he is a boy with 10x energy always questioning whatever elders say.
One day Mani raised a question to Anbu asking “Why should we read books? What is the purpose of it?”. Anbu can answer this question very easily but he did not, because he know the character of Mani that whenever we answer a question cleverly Mani will again question the answer and never accepts the answer. So he intelligently took Mani to the nearby little book shop that is owned by Guselan.
Guselan was already bored as no one comes to buy his books so when Mani asked the same question to Guselan, he answered “There is two purpose of reading book, one, if you read it with interest it enhances your brain functioning
whereas if you read it without interest it brings you a peaceful sleep!”. By hearing this Anbu laughed silently.
Mani curiosity Knocked, he wanted to Know whether the shopkeepers words are true. So Mani asked to give Guselan a book from his shop, he offered him a book by kovai Gnani a famous author of Coimbatore again Mani questioned”
Why this book?”. Guselan answered that you are looking like a very fascinated boy so I think this book would be correct for you, this I offer you this book which is differently name as “Jasmine flower” by Kovai Gnani. He bought the book home and gave it to his mother to read it to him. His mother was telling him short story and he noticed something different in his mother’s eyes because her eyes was never filled with this much fascination and cheer .
After completing the story his mother said that “How can these authors understand our feelings and convert it into a book!” On hearing this Mani experienced something new that again raised a question in his mind which his mother
asked How authors understand feelings of human and how can they clearly elaborate it in their books?. Is this capacity is common for all writers and authors? if my mom felt like the same way then all humans have same feelings?
Will all the authors analyse humans feelings? Is it possible to understand the human feelings in a common way?
This multiple questions on reading a single book in grown a specific interest for Mani to read books. So from that day Mani continuously visits Guselan’’s little book shop and buy specific books of different authors. From this scenario we can understand that kovai Gnani has started a book reading journey of a young boy and showed him a path to fill his curiosity.
