My Village – Essay

My village is a beautiful place in Kerala called Kanjirappally. It is one of the most peaceful and green places you can ever imagine. Surrounded by tall coconut trees, paddy fields and rivers, my village feels like a small paradise on Earth. Life here is simple and calm, far away from the noise and pollution of big cities.

One of the best things about my village is the greenery. Everywhere you look, you can see trees, plants and flowers. We have a small river that flows near our house. I love sitting by the river with my cousins and dipping my feet in the cool water. Sometimes we even see fish swimming and once, I saw a turtle! In the mornings, birds like the koel and the Myna sing sweet songs and the fresh breeze carries the smell of jasmine and banana leaves.

My house is a traditional Kerala style home with a sloping roof and a small veranda. My grandparents and my uncle’s family live in this house and they often tell me stories from their childhood. My grandmother makes the best ‘puttu’ and ‘kadala curry’ I have ever eaten and my grandfather teaches me how to climb coconut trees. I have tried it a few times, but I still need to practice a lot!

The market is a short walk from my house. I go there with my cousin Manu sometimes. We walk through a small path that passes by a temple and a small pond with lotuses. The market is not very big, but all the shop keepers are kind and we have lots of fun bargaining and buying things. I enjoying buying and eating ‘Neyyappam’ which is a sort of a stuffed pancake.

My village is also famous for its festivals. During Onam the whole village comes alive with flowers, lights and music. We make a big ‘pookalam’ in front of our house.

What I love the most is that everyone in the village knows each other. If someone is sick, neighbours come to help. During harvest time people share vegetables and fruits from their farms. There is a feeling of togetherness that I think is very special.

I always feel happy to come back to my village. The air feels fresher, the food tastes better and life seems more real.

I feel lucky to be from such a lovely village.
