The Day That Never Was

Had it been that day,
I’d have stretched my feet,
Had it been that sunrise,
I’d have served a pleasant greet.
Had it been that golden shaft,
My eyes would’ve twinkled,
Had it been that splendid craft,
Glitters would’ve sprinkled.

Had it been that early morning,
I’d worship those chirping birds,
Had it been that ultimate warning,
I’d certainly have heard.
I’d have adopted the habits an impeccable character needs,
I’d have sculpted myself from those mighty seeds.

Regret, a smite from the sword,
Hapless we are, mighty lord.
Had it been that dawn which cracked,
I’d not have left it hacked.
Life, trickier than Dalmatians,
Causing remorse and disasters,
But in this jigsaw,
Bloom multiple asters.

Had it been that teenage year, I’d have spun the entire destiny,
And all this gloominess would’ve fled from me.
Teenage, indeed a crucial span,
As ‘A child is the father of a man’.
