The Dove And The Ant

One hot summer day, a thirsty ant was wandering near a river in search of water. As she bent down to drink, she slipped and fell into the fast flowing water.

The poor ant struggled and cried out for help, “Someone please save me! I can’t swim!”

A dove who was sitting on a nearby tree saw the ant in danger. She quickly plucked a leaf, flew over the water and dropped it near the ant.

The ant climbed onto the leaf, floated safely to the shore, and survived. She looked up at the dove and said “Thank you, kind dove. I’ll never forget your help!”

The dove smiled and flew away.

A few days later, a hunter came into the forest with a bow and arrow. He spotted the dove sitting quietly on a branch and slowly aimed his arrow.

Just then, the little ant saw the hunter from below.

“Oh no! That’s the dove who saved me!” she thought.

Without wasting a second, the ant ran up the hunter’s leg and bit him hard on the ankle.

“Ouch!” the hunter cried and he missed his shot. The noise startled the dove and she quickly flew away to safety.

From the tree, the dove looked down and smiled at the ant.

Moral – A good deed is never wasted. Even the smallest friend can return a big favour.
