The Golden Valley
Few days ago, I visited Arunachal Pradesh where I stayed in Tawang. Tawang is a very offbeat place and mostly crowded with Buddhist monks. My morning used to start at 5 AM when I took a walk to The monastery on the foothills.
The view from the monastery was spectacular. The distant valleys were all greenish and had different shades of green. But the Valley which seemed very far to me was golden. It was completely beyond my fantasies. It looked immensely beautiful in the morning lights.
I had never gone there. There was a local belief that whoever went there had discovered eternal happiness. The monks bless the people and tell them to go there and whoever perpetuates the custom returns with infinite happiness. The water there was told to be elixir of life. So, the next day I set out all in my jackets towards the golden valley.
Walking for hours, I had covered just 3 miles When I decided to stop at one Chai Dukan to have some tea and biscuits. Quenching my thirst with the hot sweet tea, I proceeded again. There were black Clouds overhead. Eagles were surrounding from all the four sides ready to snap any small animal that came in sight. There was wildfire at the distance.
Not long before, a drenching rain came. Running I took shelter in a forest rest house. I was allowed to stay there at night and was helped to lit the fire. The kind forest guard even made me a hot dinner. Next morning I had just set towards the valley when wind started to blow hard. I walked ,i ran and I do not know when I fell asleep being tired of the whole day journey. When I woke up, I saw the sun had come out. Trees, birds and the dew on the grass was golden.
I was mesmerized by the view. The scene made me feel I am out of this material world. The view seemed more precious to me than gold. I went to the monastery and had the water they gave me. My happiness had known no bounds and I felt that gold was no more than the immortal happiness of the hills and that the elixir was not the water but the prospect of delight.
