My Trip to the Statue of Unity

During the long weekend we went to Ahmedabad to visit my uncle and his family. Since we had never seen the Statue of Unity, the elders decided that we needed to visit it before we travel back to Mumbai. I was super excited to see the Statue of Unity which is located near Vadodara. I had heard a lot about it from my friends who told me about the world’s tallest statue. I was super excited to see it for myself!

The travel from Ahmedabad was going to take couple of hours, so all of us woke up early in the morning and packed our bags. I packed a lot of snacks including my favourite chips packets. The drive was long, but I didn’t mind because I was busy looking out the window, seeing the trees, mountains, and villages we passed by. We played Antakshiri to pass the time as we drove.

When we finally reached the Statue of Unity, I was amazed. The statue was huge, it stands at 182 meters high. Wow even taller than the Statue of Liberty. The statue is of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, who was a great leader in India. My dad told me that he helped unite all the states of India after we got our independence, which is why they made this big statue in his honor.

We took a bus from the parking lot to the main entrance and I was so excited that I ran ahead of my parents. I felt so small standing next to such a gigantic statue, infact the feet of the statue was almost double my size. We took a lot of pictures and I made sure to take one with the statue’s head in the background.

Inside the statue there is a lift that takes you up to the viewing gallery which is 153 meters high. The lift ride was really fast and my ears popped a little but I wasn’t scared. From the top, we could see the Narmada River and the beautiful surroundings. Everything looked so tiny from up there!

We also visited the museum inside the statue which had lots of information about Sardar Patel’s life. The audio visual were really nice and gave me a lot of information about the great leader.

Before we left we watched a light and sound show in the evening. The show told the story of Sardar Patel’s life. It was a great way to end our trip.

On our way back home I couldn’t stop thinking about how big and important the Statue of Unity is. I felt proud to learn about Sardar Patel and how he helped shape India. I’m glad I got to visit such an amazing place, and I can’t wait to tell all my friends about it!
