Essay – World Environment Day
Every year 5th June is celebrated as World Environment Day all around the world. It is a very important day that reminds us to take care of our Earth. The environment is everything around us from the trees, animals, air, water, land and even the sky. Without a healthy environment, we cannot live happily or safely.
The Earth is our only home and we must protect it. But nowadays, many people are harming nature by cutting trees, throwing garbage everywhere, polluting rivers, using too much plastic and burning fuels that make the air dirty. All of this is making the Earth hotter and causing problems like floods, droughts and even climate change.
World Environment Day was started by the United Nations in 1972 to encourage people all over the world to come together and help protect our environment. Each year, this day has a special theme. This year’s theme is about restoring nature and reducing pollution. It means we should plant more trees, avoid wasting water, stop using plastic and keep our surroundings clean.
At my school, we celebrated World Environment Day by doing many fun and meaningful activities. We had a special morning assembly with a speech on the environment, a skit showing how to reduce pollution and a poster-making competition. We also went out with our teachers and planted small saplings around the school. It felt really nice to put our hands in the soil and give something back to Mother Earth.
At home, I also try to help the environment in small ways. I always switch off lights, fans and the TV when not in use. We collect old newspapers and bottles for recycling. I carry a cloth bag when we go shopping, so we don’t have to use plastic ones. I also tell my friends not to litter and to take care of plants.
I believe that even small actions can make a big difference. If every child starts taking care of the environment, we can help save the Earth. After all, we are the future generation and we must make sure our planet stays green and clean.
In the end, I want to say that World Environment Day should not be celebrated only on one day. We should follow its message every day by doing simple things like saving water, planting trees and not polluting the environment. Let’s promise to love and protect our Earth like it protects us.
