Essay – Save Water
Water is one of the most important gifts of nature. It is something we use every single day for drinking, cooking, bathing, cleaning and even playing. But even though it seems like there’s a lot of water on Earth, the truth is that only a tiny part of it is clean and safe to use. That’s why we must understand how important it is to save water and stop wasting it.
I first learned about water scarcity during this summer. Our teacher told us that around 97% of the water on Earth is salty and only 3% is fresh. Out of that 3%, most of it is frozen in glaciers or deep underground. So the amount of water we actually get to use is very, very small. This really shocked me! I used to think water would never run out. But now I know that if we don’t take care of it, there might not be enough clean water left for future generations.
At home, I’ve started making changes. I no longer keep the tap running while brushing my teeth. I use a mug instead. When I take a bath, I try to finish quickly so I don’t waste too much water. My parents also fix any leaking taps or pipes immediately because even a small drip can waste a lot of water over time.
We also reuse water whenever we can. The biggest reuse of water is from the water waste from RO machine, we use this to clean utensils or cleaning the house. It saves many liters of water every time.
There are also ways to save water outside the house. People who water plants or lawns should do it in the early morning or late evening not in the afternoon when the sun is too hot. That way the water doesn’t evaporate quickly. Schools and public places should also teach people about saving water and make sure taps and toilets don’t leak. The children of our society is planning to have a demonstration to promote rain water harvesting in our society.
If we don’t act now water could become very expensive and hard to find. Some places in the world already have this problem. People have to walk long distances to get just a little clean water. Imagine not being able to take a bath or drink a glass of water whenever you’re thirsty. That would be terrible!
Saving water is not just something grown-ups should worry about. We as children, can also help by being careful and spreading the message. Every drop we save today can help someone tomorrow.
In the end water is life. Without it we cannot survive. So let us all promise to save water and use it wisely. After all it is our responsibility to take care of the Earth and its precious resources.
