Essay – Ganesh Chaturthi

Ganesh Chaturthi is one of the most famous festivals in India. It is celebrated to honour Lord Ganesha, who is known as the god of wisdom, success and remover of obstacles. People believe that when we pray to Lord Ganesha with a pure heart, he blesses us with knowledge and happiness.

The festival usually lasts for 10 days. On the first day, people bring home beautiful idols of Lord Ganesha. Everybody uses flowers, lights and vibrant rangolis to adorn their homes and pandals. The streets are filled with drumming, singing and dancing sounds. People present delicacies like modaks since they are Lord Ganesha’s favourite.

In my house, we also celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi. Every year, we bring a small idol of Lord Ganesha and decorate a special place with flowers and lights. My mother makes delicious modaks and laddoos and I help her by arranging the offerings. In the evening, we all sit together and do aarti. I really enjoy singing the prayers with my family. Sometimes, my friends come over to see our Ganpati, and we all get prasad together.

In our house we do visarjan on the 3rd day in a nearby lake. Most big pandals do visarjan on the 10th day. You can see the huge amount of people who celebrate and take the idol to do visarjan. Even though I feel a little sad while saying goodbye, I am also happy because I know that Ganesha will come back again next year to bless us.

I like Ganesh Chaturthi because it brings people together and spreads happiness everywhere. It also teaches us to let go of things and start fresh, just like we let go of the idol with love and hope.

Ganesh Chaturthi is not just a festival but also a reminder that knowledge, kindness, and faith can remove any obstacle in life.
