Elizabeth The Boy Girl Novelist
Once upon a time, in the 19th century, lived four siblings: Henry (The youngest), Alexander (The middle), Elizabeth (The 2nd oldest), Charles (The oldest).
They lived in a small cottage on the outskirts of town.
One day Elizabeth went to their bedroom not surprised to see the boys playing in her side of the room, having fun writing stories.
Girls weren’t allowed to study at that time. They were not allowed to ‘waste’ their time writing. They had to cook and clean, be prim, proper and poised like ‘young’ damsels.
That’s when the idea struck Elizabeth.
She could pretend to be a boy and write stories!
First she went to a hat store and bought a hat, and made a tiny shelter with supplies to survive in the clearing.
Next, she went to the clearing near her house and picked a few dried leaves and grass and crushed it in a pot, colored the grass black with the dried leaves and stuck it as a beard.
After that, she went, with her last coins and notes, to the clothing store and bought a suit, tie and trousers to wear below.
Finally, she went home and tested to see if her family recognised her beneath the disguise.
She knocked on the door and when they opened the door……THEY DIDN’T RECOGNISE HER!
“Oh, hello, I just wanted to ask if you have a pen and a paper?” asked Elizabeth
“A pen and a paper?” asked her dad “Yes, but by any chance have you seen our child, Elizabeth?”
“Elizabeth? Never heard of her. But if I do find her, I’ll inform you.”
Delighted, Elizabeth walked happily to the clearing and started writing all about girl rights. She was determined to change the world and people’s perspectives, one story at a time!
