The King and the Foolish Monkey

Once upon a time, there was a kind and powerful king. He lived in a beautiful palace and had many servants to take care of him. The king also had a pet monkey. This monkey was allowed to stay in the palace and roam freely, because the king liked him very much.

The monkey was playful and loved the king a lot. He always tried to protect the king and help him. One day, the king was resting in his garden under a tree. The monkey sat nearby to guard him.

While the king was sleeping, a fly came and sat on his nose. The monkey saw the fly and tried to scare it away. But the fly kept coming back again and again.

The monkey became angry. He wanted to protect the king no matter what. The next time the fly sat on the king’s nose, the monkey picked up a sword from the guard nearby. Then, when the fly sat on the king’s nose again, the monkey raised the sword and struck hard.

The fly flew away but the poor king was badly hurt! The monkey had struck him with the sword on his face. The king woke up in pain and realized what had happened. Though the monkey meant no harm, his foolish action caused great trouble.

From that day, the king understood that it is dangerous to trust a foolish friend. He ordered that the monkey be sent away from the palace.

Moral: A foolish friend can do more harm than a wise enemy.
