A Tale of Scales, Sands and Secrets
One day, a very beautiful princess was living in a gorgeous palace with pleasant gardens, large rooms, and anything else you could imagine! One day, a visitor came. He saw the princess and decided to trick her. He came inside the palace and said, “I, George Gildon from England, would like to make a request of you.”
Just before King Edwin could say a word or two, the whole kingdom of Malwen heard a rumbling sound! When the guards and the rest of the kingdom came outside to see what was going on, they saw a great, strong, fearsome dragon. It was covered fully in red with sharp, blade-like objects on its back and huge black eyes! People began screaming and rushing to close their shops, find their family members, and bring them to safety.
Then, suddenly, the visitor George Gildon stepped forward. He started fighting the dragon and punched it in the face! The whole kingdom was shocked, as they had never seen such a courageous man fight a dragon before. The king sent his guards to capture the dragon and throw it in prison.
The king then called the visitor, George Gildon, to ask what reward he would like for saving the kingdom. The visitor said he would like to speak with the princess, Maria Martin Edwin, if the king would allow it. The king didn’t waste a second and said, “Of course, my polite visitor, of course!” This made George Gildon feel very comfortable. So, the king commanded his guards to show George to his room and then to the princess’s room. Just then, the commander of the guards came to the king and said, “Your Majesty, we can’t
trust him yet. We barely know anything about him!”
The king replied, “You’re probably just jealous that George fought the dragon and not you or
your team.”
So, the guards showed George his room and went to call the princess. George stepped inside the room and saw a young, down-to-earth, and beautiful princess looking at herself in the mirror, holding a pearl necklace. George cleared his throat and spoke:
“Dear Princess, I am George Gildon, a humble visitor from England, and I would like to tell you
a secret that you cannot tell anyone.”
The princess asked, “And what would it be?”
“It’s about a treasure in the wild deserts of Peru. People say whoever finds it will be the true hero of the world!”
This made Maria very curious, and she commanded the guards to prepare a ship so she could go to Peru. George heard this news and was really surprised and happy. He thought the princess would now get lost forever and never return!
Maria started her voyage, taking enough food, water, and money. Two months later, she finally reached Peru! She got off the ship and excitedly started searching for the treasure. But after a week, she saw her crewmates sailing off without her! She felt very scared, thirsty, and hungry. She calculated that it had been exactly one year since she had arrived there.
One day, she saw an old man walking through the desert. She ran towards him and asked, “Do you know how to get out of Peru?”
The old man said, “Oh, my dear child! Even I am lost in this desert. Can you please take me to the oasis?”
Maria didn’t know the way to the oasis, but she wanted to help. So, she wandered around the desert until she finally found it. She helped the old man drink some water. Suddenly, his voice changed! Maria was shocked because it sounded just like the king’s voice.
Then, the old man removed his disguise and said, “Oh, Maria! Is that you, my child?” Maria cried, “Yes! I got stuck here.”
The king said, “I was so gullible. I saw George Gildon talking to you, but he tricked me too! He told me there was a treasure in the deserts of Peru just to trap me here!” The king then declared, “Let’s go back to the palace and throw him in the dungeon.”
So, both the king and the princess sailed back to the palace. When the king arrived, he saw George Gildon sitting on the throne and immediately commanded the guards to arrest him.
The commander of the guards stepped forward and asked, “So, did I guess right about him?” The king stepped forward and replied, “I am so sorry that I didn’t listen to you. I must reward you with something. Hmm… maybe money will do. Yes, I’ll give you 1,00,000 rupees as a reward!”
