Involvement of kids and digital technologies
In this world of the new generation, where the field of technology is growing day by day, we have A.I.-powered tools, electronics coming with the latest features, fun video games, and social media communication. Although it’s a good thing that the world is able to develop in this field, what matters is how we use it.
Keeping this theme in mind, I would like to present a short and simple play.
Play:
On a Saturday morning, Sam had planned to play his new favorite video game with his friend Ferb after a busy school week. As he waited by the gate of a park, he spotted Henry.
Sam: Hello, Henry! How are you doing?
Henry: I am fine, and you?
Sam: I am well too! Do you know I recently discovered this new video game? It is so much fun. Maybe we can play together with Ferb.
Henry: I wish I could, but our teacher gave us so much homework! Thankfully, these days students can use A.I. to quickly get their work done.
Sam: Right. A.I. makes every task easier. After completing your homework, we can play video games together.
(Ferb joins the scene.)
Ferb: Hello, everyone! It looks like you both are talking about something exciting.
Sam: Yes, we are talking about A.I. and video games while we waited for you. What took you so long?
Ferb: Well, I have something even better to show you both. I recently bought the newly released iPhone 16 Pro! It has all the latest technology. I was busy checking it out; perhaps that’s the reason for my late arrival.
Sam and Henry (together): WOW! That is so cool!
(George was on his way home from the store, checking his phone simultaneously, and happened to meet them at the park’s gate.)
George: Hello, everyone! Did you all check out my latest post on Instagram?
I’m getting so many likes! Looks like I’m already on my way to becoming popular.
Henry: Instagram? I have never used that app.
George: Well, you should! Social media has made communication more advanced.
(Tom, their classmate, was sitting nearby on a bench, having his breakfast snack.)
Tom: Hi, everyone. I have been listening to you all for the past few minutes. I don’t think all of you realize how harmful excessive social media use, overuse of A.I., and too many video games can be for children like us. Remember the old days, when we used to play outside, use our own creativity for homework, and didn’t have any screen time?
Ferb: You are right! Those were the golden days. What amazing times we used to have!
George: I feel nostalgic now that you have brought up this important realization. We have been too carried away by all this latest technology. Should we go play in the park now?
Everyone (excitedly agrees): Yes! Let’s go to the park!
The sun was shining brighter than ever, with a gentle breeze, and the friends decided to have a picnic together as their weekend reunion.
If we follow healthy screen-time habits, do our work creatively, and go outside from time to time, we can be mindful, healthy, fit, and feel more positive. A.I. and social media can be tools that help with communication (for example, digital sites where people get their entries published to improve their writing, just like this!), but it’s important that we don’t let them consume our lives and well-being.
