The Three Fishes
Once upon a time, in a large lake, there lived three fishes. They were good friends and stayed together all the time. But each fish was different in how they thought and acted.
The first fish was very wise. He always thought carefully and planned ahead. The second fish was smart, but he usually made decisions only after something happened. The third fish was not very clever and never thought much about the future.
One day, some fishermen were passing by the lake. They saw how many fish were in it and said, “This lake looks full of fish. Let’s come back tomorrow with our nets and catch them.”
The wise fish heard the fishermen talking. He got worried and immediately swam to his friends. He said, “We must leave this lake right away. The fishermen will return tomorrow and we may get caught.”
The smart fish said, “You’re probably right, but let’s wait and see. If the fishermen really come, then I will find a way to escape.”
The foolish fish laughed and said, “This lake is our home. We’ve lived here forever. I don’t think anything bad will happen.”
The wise fish didn’t wait. That very evening, he found a small stream that led out of the lake and swam away to another safer place.
The next morning, the fishermen came with their nets. They threw them into the lake and caught many fish, including the foolish fish.
The smart fish saw the net coming and quickly pretended to be dead. The fishermen threw him back into the water, thinking he wasn’t fresh. As soon as they left, the smart fish swam away to safety.
Only the wise fish escaped danger by thinking ahead. The smart fish escaped by reacting quickly. But the foolish fish didn’t listen or act, and he was caught.
Moral: It is always wise to think ahead and be prepared for danger.
